here is why, even though i no longer agree with most of what the gb/wt/jw's teach, i still feel especially close to all of us who were apart of this group.

The Borg forces conformity and calls it a loving worldwide brotherhood.
The Free enable diversity and and we know we can count on each other no matter how different our personalities or views.
Which is more like true family? I think the answer is obvious.
maybe i am off base, but it seems that the last year or so hasn't had the standard retoric about how "imminent, close, or soon" the end will be.
it seems as if the focus is now on obeying the governing body.
have you noticed this?.
The entire "toes" talk and "new (if recycled 1978 doctrine can be considered new) light" at the district convention was about how imminent and soon the end is.
They're all about how urgent and soon it all is. Every earthquake. Every hurricane. Every war. Every tornado. Every cry of peace. Every cry of war. Every time they hear or see news, it is "proof" that the end is soon.

when i was still serving as an elder in the late summer of 2006 in a congregation of jws in socal we received a letter from the "christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses" (read: the governing body) directing that anyone pursuing a higher education would be disqualified from privileges of service: elder, servant, pioneer, etc.
i remember this quite distinctly because i had just received by ba in education in june a few months before this.
in 2002, i had decided to pursue a degree under the society's then current "it's a personal decision" policy and was quite shocked at their drastic policy change.
I have to ask this question as someone who has never been an elder but has obtained a large pdf file of policy letters that seems to be missin MANY letters I've heard mentioned in various discussions:

i have the wt may 15 1994 scan with the birthdates & deaths of the 16 people featured, and it occured to me using wt logic,that you could extend the generation timespan this way.. #6 d.d.

#4 j.e was born in 1912 and died in 1997. the age gap between these two is 20 years.

following the recent activity surrounding the "mentally diseased" apostate article, a major uk newspaper has expressed an interest in covering the story.
the correspondent as been told about this forum, and he is particularly interested in hearing from those inside the organisation, as i think few people are aware of how much unrest there is actually within witness ranks at the teachings of the society.. would anybody like to be used as a source, either anonymously or otherwise?
if so, it might be worthwhile saying a few words on this thread.
Has anyone taken the time for a comparison of the "regular" and "simplified" versions? Often the simplified one gets right to the heart of Borg negativity. I haven't really looked at this particular one, though.

This was merely one six-paragraph subheading in a study article. In just six paragraphs all of the following terms were used:
“Not content, ravenous wolves, leading them away from truth, cunning, corruptive, smugglers, clandestine, like clever forgers, having fabricated views, false arguments, deceptive teachings, twisting the scriptures, not having others best interests at heart, false teachers, infected with a contagious deadly disease, and mentally diseased, dried-up wells that deceive and disappoint.”
Depending on how you count that is 17 or more slanderous terms in just six paragraphs.
And the other articles in that issue have more crap scattered throughout.

so my parents are studying how to convince one of their bible studies that jws are not a cult.
they just checked two different dictionaries, realized that the definitions given could, indeed, apply to jws.
Good point, George. How can anyone read Combating Cult Mind Control by Hassan and not see the Watchtower/JWs throughout?
